Forty Three (43) graduating residents who successfully completed their residency and fellowship training at Saint George Hospital University Medical Center and the University of Balamand Faculty of Medicine shared their successes and accomplishments among proud parents, faculty teachers and medical peers.
The ceremony was marked by the distinguished presence of Dr. Charaf Abou Charaf, President of Lebanese Order of Physicians, Dr. Elias Warrak, President of the University of Balamand, Dr. Camille Nassar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Balamand, Mr. Edgard Joujou, Chief Executive Officer and Dr. Alexandre Nehme, Chief Medical Officer at Saint George Hospital University Medical Center.
In the beginning, Dr. Dany Al Hamod, Associate Chief Medical Officer for Graduate Medical Education welcomed the audience addressing his residents with a word from the heart, asking them “to carry the name of their hospital, university and country very high, wherever they might go, in and outside Lebanon”, hoping they would “come back to Lebanon, even after a long stay abroad, … because Lebanon remains a leading country in the fields of medical education and medicine.” Dr. Elias Warrak encouraged them to “rise above the greed of money and positions by keeping their ethics high while serving the frail human being, given that high moral values survive mortal human beings.” Dr. Alexandre Nehme then delivered his word encouraging them to continue believing in their dreams and future achievements “Today you come, not to the end, but to the beginning. Beginning of new horizons, new opportunities and the beginning of a new you” by encouraging them to “Give it your all. Dare to be all you can be”
The opening ceremony ended with the gratifying speech of Dr. Christian Attieh, Resident Representative, thanking all those who contributed to nurturing the residents’ lives, including their hospital family as well as their parents. He reiterated his “commitment to Hippocrates’ oath by staying focused on the noble cause of catering to the health and well-being of humans.”
Graduates were introduced by their respective Heads of Departments, Chiefs of Divisions and Program Directors praising them for their hard work and dedication throughout extensive years of training.
Winners of the 2nd Saint George Hospital Research Day which was held on June 14, 2019 were then announced as follows: Dr. Gerard El Hajj, Dr. Jennifer Farah, and Dr. Julien Bachour.
In the last part of the event, residents presented a video they had prepared illustrating memories of their journey at Saint George Hospital University Medical Center.
The ceremony ended with a cocktail reception to celebrate this important landmark in the lives of the graduating new physicians.
