Saint George Hospital University Medical Center participated today in the Syndicate of Hospitals call to strike given the current crisis faced by the health care sector in Lebanon. The Government failure to reimburse the hospital sector dates back to 2011. A long overdue unpaid balance of $1.3 billion is today owed to the hospitals. In turn, due to financial and liquidity issues/restrictions facing all the Lebanese today, medical equipment and medicine can no longer be imported. Saint George Hospital Beirut suspended today all its surgeries, consultations, diagnostic and laboratory tests, leaving only access to ER cases. This dangerous situation cannot last if the government does not find an imminent solution to solve it.
