For more than 40 years, the PTD at SGHUMC has been dedicated to catering the rehabilitation and physiotherapy needs of patients.
The center is supported by a team of 7 experienced physiotherapists, some of them with more than 20 years of experience. Quality treatments are offered using high tech equipment.

We specialize in
Traumatology, Orthopedics, Post Surgery Rehabilitation, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Pediatrics, Pneumology, Rheumatology, Scoliosis, Neurology, Sports Medicine, Shockwave Therapy and Hydrotherapy.

Shockwave Therapy

The Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy system, especially designed for orthopedic use, ensures a gentle and efficient treatment with pneumatically generated shockwaves, which are transmitted into the area of pain. Impulse frequencies can be freely selected, allowing the duration of treatment to be kept as short as possible: for example, a treatment with 2000 impulses only takes about five to ten minutes.

The Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy is applied to treat various musculoskeletal conditions:
• Tennis elbow
• Golf elbow
• Shoulder’s calcification
• Hip bursitis
• Patella tip syndrome
• Tibialis anterior syndrome
• Tendonitis of the Achilles tendon (achillodynia)
• Fascitis Plantaris

Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy is a great alternative to traditional physiotherapy. It has been used as medical treatment for many centuries. Therapists use the water and specifically designed activities to enhance, restore and maintain a person's functional abilities.

Benefits of Hydrotherapy
After an illness or surgery, patient sensitivity to pain may be increased or the ability to bear weight on the injured area limited. In water, the pull of gravity on the body is not as strong as on land. Water supports the body therefore motion and functional activity are more comfortable. The benefits of hydrotherapy include:
• Improved muscle strength and tone
• Increased cardiovascular function
• Reduced stress
• Decreased swelling
• Increased circulation
• Increased strength and endurance
• Increased range of motion and flexibility
• Increased balance and coordination

Indications for Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy may not be recommended for certain medical conditions but the majority of persons with a variety of disabilities and orthopedic conditions can participate. Those with back problems, knee injuries, ankle injuries, shoulder conditions, strokes etc…may benefit from hydrotherapy.

A warm welcoming by a professional team is always awaiting patients at the Physiotherapy Department. The Physiotherapy Department is also committed to excellence in providing patients with a tailored personal care program.
