The Hemodynamic and Interventional Cardiology Unit or Invasive Cardiology Unit is one of the most active diagnostic and treatment centers at Saint George Hospital University Medical Center.

Cardiac Catheterization, also known as cardiac cath. or coronary angiogram, is a procedure performed to verify the presence and degree of narrowing or blockages in the coronary arteries. These arteries supply the heart muscles with oxygen and nutrients so that the heart can pump effectively. An effective way of visualizing these arteries is by injecting dye into them during a cardiac catheterization procedure.

Physicians use the cardiac catheterization unit to:

- Evaluate or confirm the presence of heart disease (such as coronary artery disease, valve disease or disease of the aorta)

- Evaluate the muscle function of the heart

- Determine the need for further treatment such as angioplasty or bypass surgery

- Perform Electro-physiology Study, Tilt Test and Electrical Holter

- Diagnose Arrhythmia and Cardioversion

- Evaluate the risk of Sudden Death

- Perform the Pace-Maker and internal cardiometer defibrillator implantation

 - Treat by Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty, Stent Implantation, thrombectomy, Rotablator, IVVS and FFR.

- Perform structural heart disease interventions: Valvuloplasty, T.A.V.I , ASD Closure and Arterial Appendage Closure

- Perform diagnostic abdominal, renal, mesenteric, carotids, upper and lower extremities arterography

- Treat by  Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) and Stenting for occlusive arterial disease

- Treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysm by stent graft placement

- Percutaneous Transluminal embolization of AV malformation, bleeding and tumors
